Double O Seven
By, J.C. Trevino for ILLINIHARNESSRACING.
When driver Mike Oosting started the Saturday night it started with a disappointment, finishing unplaced with TIMEWELL a horse he had driven to victory just last week for trainer Donna Lee-Ozment. Making that a ruff start to the evening in which he was scheduled to drive in all fourteen races. Then in the second heat of the evening things started to get better for “Double O” as he managed to hit the board with the Nelson Willis trained VIVID VOLTAGE, but that’s still not good enough for the standards of the very competitive Oosting who is the leading driver at the
As CLAYTON DAVID was able to out sprint his nine rivals to the wire in race three that gave the reins man his first victory of the evening. Oosting owns and trains the five year old
So what started as a bad night now turned into a good night with a chance for it to be a greater night with nine races still to go. So a natural hat trick was in the books.
After race six it became a grand slam for Double O as he was able to guide home THEREPLAYINGOURSONG to victory. Just like CLAYTON DAVID Oosting owns and trains the six year old son of SPORTSMASTER.
Oosting then managed to finish second with his next two drives ROCKET DOG and BONN SCOTT in races seven and eight but failed to hit the board with FOX VALLEY GAMBLER in race nine as he finished a disappointing seventh but only beaten five lengths. In race ten Oosting managed to finish fourth with MOSES HANOVER the three year old he trains for the Slightly Sinful Racing Stables.
When HEATH sprinted away from his rivals in race eleven fans began to high five as that gave Double O a owning and training triple and five victories for the night. So now it’s officially a great night for Double O owning, training, and driving. But there were still three more races to be raced on the evening and Double O still had legit shots with his last three drives.
Trotting Tom made Double O and KENNANS KELLI his LOCK OF THE NIGHT in race twelve. The four year old daughter of COLE MUFFLER who is trained by Joel Smith didn’t disappoint as she and Double O were able to greet owner Ken Spurlock in the winners circle. In race thirteen MACK ON THE REBOUND was ruffed up pretty good while finishing fifth, but will have to rebound next time he races. While Oosting has his chance to rebound in race fourteen, and he did just that by bottoming out the final field with RE FAREWELL as they went wire to wire. The six year old son of BIG TOM is trained by Erin Elliott for owner Robert Giannetti.
That last win gave Mike Oosting “DOUBLE O SEVEN” for the evening.
