Puzzle needs to be solved in Incredible Finale

December 24,2009

When round three of the Incredible Finale pacing series were competed Wednesday Night a few questions needed to be answered.  So the puzzle could be solved. Who will pass to next week’s final or next week’s consolations that will be contested at Maywood Park?

The $7000 final for colts will be raced where they score only eight across. Since there have been seven different winners in the first two rounds and with three more winners coming from round three that makes a total of ten winners. So do you have two trailers with green colts on a bull ring? Or do you go by earning in the series and take the top earners? Would that be fair to horses like FITZ’S Z TAM, FOX VALLEY NIPPER, YIANNOULAS BOY & OTHERS who were first or second round winners?  That couldn’t race in round three because round one and two winners were ineligible to race in round three.  NOWAY so theirs another piece missing from the puzzle

So you then take horses like INCREDIBLE AL, RICH N SPORTY, ARIZONA MUD, FROSTNPUNKIN, COMMERICAL GRADE, QUAIDZILLA, MM WEST, BRING THE RAIN, ODDS ON EMANUEL, FRONTIER GENERAL, GENCOR’S Z TAM, & AJS DELIGHT who  had the opportunity to race in all three rounds and earn more money then others so the earnings method is out of the questions. At least I hope so.

So going into the racing action on Wednesday the seven winners with  mandatory byes were 1. YINANNOULAS BOY 2. FITZ’S Z TAM 3. ONE CHASER (the only two time winner in the series ) 4 FOX VALLEY NIPPER. 5. HARMONY OAKS RENGO 6. RUSH OF FOOLS & 7. DRAMA PARTY.  So who would join this list of winners and  add more pieces to an unsolved puzzle?

While the racing conditions were ridiculous on Wednesday, the final three divisions of this series had to be raced on unsatisfactory conditions with high winds, cold temperatures and a track listed as sloppy. Which made it for some slow fractions and slow final times on this cold evening!

In the first division when three of the ten colts scratched out of the race it only left seven rivals left trying to get on that list of division winners.  Trainer Don Brown handed the lines to Mike Oosting  and instructed Mike to take no prisoner, and that’s just what Oosting did as he put the son of Incredible Finale (Incredible Rain) right on the lead and made every pole a winning pole. Going thru fractions of 30 2/5 101 2/5 131 and a final time of 202 Incredible Rain joins the list of winners and adds another piece to the  unsolve puzzle.

In the second division once again there was a scratch (MM WEST) but it still left nine contestants trying to join Incredible Rain with the other seven (front line) winners of round one and two. As the gate was rolling the whole complex of the race changed when both PARANQUE and OWEN’S MARKER made breaks behind the gate and made the puzzle even harder to figure out.  Taking full advantage of this was the Nick Prather charge BIG DADDY WOO WOO who was coming off a four day layoff.  Holding his inside position and taking a two hole trip the whole mile behind the battling leaders JITTERBUG JACK and QUAIDZILLA. BIG DADDY WOO WOO(Jamaica Patton) had more then enough room to shot up the inside with out having to wait for the passing lane when JITTERBUG JACK(Andy Shelter) drifted out in mid stretch.  Prevailing in 207 by a long neck was the three year old son of FT APACHE HANOVER who is owned by Carol Henricks. Yet one more piece to the Incredible Finale puzzle is thrown in the mix.

In Division three again the post time favorite DOUBLE JACK made a miscue behind the gate and again every body’s game plan switched after that.  Thru the first quarter mile two of the circuit’s young guns Johnny “The Rocket” Roberts and Trace Tetrick were switching blows with there two horses (KB’S ROCKY & RED PHOENIX) as they battled for the lead. Then just as those two would settle down here came another young gun (Marcus Miller) with his charge AJS DELIGHT as they raced past the half and towards three quarters. Licking his chops and enjoying all of this was another young gun (Tyler Buter) with GENCORS Z TAM as they were sitting right where they needed to be about five lengths off the battling leaders. When it looked like AJS DELIGHT might just hold on for the victory GENCORS Z TAM surged at the wire to get up for a neck victory in 204 4/5 for owner trainer Eligio Boccia who co owns the three year old son of COLE MUFFLER with Leonard Nixon.

Now if you think the boys were the only ones with puzzle problems in the series? WRONG!!!  The girls were with the same dilemma as some pieces are also missing except in the ladies case there is seven winners in the first two rounds. But the only difference is that there were only two divisions for the ladies who needed to be contested on Wednesday.

The two divisions were won by the Nelson “Spider” Willis trained SHAKE SOME (J. Sutton) and the Donald Filomeno trained MOOCHIESMONEYMAKER (T.Buter).

Even though some horses didn’t make it to round three, they still had the opportunity to compete while others who wanted to compete didn’t get the opportunity to compete.  So the puzzle still remains to be solved for next weeks final and consolations. Who will race in the series final? And who will race in the Consolation?  Only time and the entries will tell when it comes to next week’s Incredible Finale Pacing Series action.
